Wrong Side Of The Fence

In the free world today, it's hard to imagine someone would be sacked for getting into the wrong side of the fence. However, we just witnessed exactly that in Malaysia today.

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has sacked former de-facto Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim for attending events organised by several opposition parties.

Announcing this last night, Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the sacking would take effect immediately.

He said Zaid would not be given the chance to appeal against the decision.

“We need to take this drastic action because Zaid’s action in attending functions and being seen with opposition leaders are against the party’s ethics. More

Normally I would say "unbelievable" but in this case, no. Malaysia is known as "Boleh-Land", anything is possible!

What UMNO is trying to do is to give a stern warning for its' members not to mingle with oppositions. Given its' instability lately, it's not strange for UMNO to act in such childish way. I think this method will only backfire on UMNO in the long run as its' members will start to lose faith in UMNO. By controlling people's freedom, people will not give wholeheartedly. UMNO is too short sighted.

How about us? Will we get into trouble by attending different celebrations or events by other religious group? Or even go to other churches for services? Not sure yet but certainly not welcomed to do so.

I know some people who left our church and join other churches are treated quite coldly by some of our members. Some pretended not to see them, gave cold shoulders, etc. Come on! Aren't we supposed to be happy that they found a church that suits them and they can grow spiritually there? Why must it be "our church as the only true church" mindset?

Sure we have to look into why people sometimes prefer other churches, but by giving cold treatments to others sure wouldn't help "cure" things. Do they think that by giving cold treatments, those people will repent & come back to our church????

It only smears our church reputation!
